As a freelancer who often deals with currency conversion, we certainly rely on accurate information. However, recently, an interesting incident shook freelancers, especially those who frequently monitor the USD to IDR exchange rate. Google, which is usually the main reference, recently made a fatal mistake that surprised many people.
Hey guys, I have some recent news about Google that has been causing a stir among freelancers like me, or others who frequently check the USD to IDR exchange rate. Recently, Google had an error and showed the rupiah exchange rate at around 8000, which shocked dollar enthusiasts because it was slashed by half. When checked against other sources, it turned out to be just an error from Google itself.
As you can see in the image above, I’m showing a screenshot that displays the currency conversion from USD to Yen. However, when we try USD to IDR, the conversion data no longer appears, as shown in the screenshot below.

Due to this mistake, it seems Google got fed up or sulked after being blamed for having an exchange rate that didn’t match other sources. So, after I double-checked, Google no longer displays the USD to IDR conversion that usually appears as a price like the others.
Turns out Google is that strict—just one small mistake and it’s no longer displayed, haha. Imagine the pressure on the developer or the division responsible when that data miscalculation happened. Is it possible that someone or that division faced layoffs or reprimands, leading Google to stop showing the USD to IDR conversion rate?
Well, guys! A small mistake can have big consequences, even for a giant like Google. Hopefully, this incident serves as a lesson for all of us, both as users and developers, to always ensure the data we provide or receive is accurate. For those of you who are used to relying on Google for currency conversions, it’s time to look for other alternatives while they fix this issue. Let’s not get caught in another error like this!
